Velma H. Scahill - In Court Over Husbands Road Death - Historical Newspapers - Portsmouth Herald, Portsmouth, New Hampshire

The Portsmouth Herald, the original Gazette, the oldest newspaper in New Hampshire, was published as the Sunday edition of The Herald from the 1890s to 1960, when the Sunday paper began carrying the name Herald.

In 1989, a descendent of the Gazette's founder began publishing an alternative newspaper under that name.

Name: Mrs Velma H. Scahill, wife of John Scahill, who was killed in a road accident. Sustained a lower court jury verdict in favor of Mrs Scahill. Velma H. Scahill sued S. S. Jabre and Ruth D. Corson.

John Scahill was hit by another vehicle, while assisting to change a tire. John Scahill was a passenger in the vehicle, driven by Cayton F. Osborn. He later died in Portsmouth Hospital. The accident happened on Route 4 and 16 in Newington.
