Who Wrote Graffiti On My Garage Doors?
Spent a couple of hours today, cleaning felt marker graffiti from my garage doors.
What kind of miscreant would do something like this?
My garage doors are in the back alley, so these "sneak by night" idiots have darkness to hide there dirty deeds. I'm just going to have to ensure that my security lights are working fully.
No photographs of this act, I did not want give some idiot credit.
It cost me CDN $15.00 to purchase a spray can of Graffiti Gone. It works well, but it can take the whiteness from vinyl, which is the material my garage doors are made from.

Darrell Turns 50 - Happy Birthday...
A friend, Darrell, turned 50 on 6 November 2006, but his birthday party was held on Saturday 11 November.
We gave Darrell a shirt with a message on the right sleeve. He is working on getting his pilots licence.
Nice shirt. Where did you get if from?
Kathy feeding her "old" man...
Great party guys. We really enjoyed the photographs of Darrell growing up.
The food was fantastic too.

Gloria Gets A Business Card...
My wife Gloria has received her first business card.
She works for the Medicine Hat Esplanade, in the cafe and gift shop.
Gloria's cooking is second to none, and when we had our deli, Deli Heights, we catered to many businesses in Medicine Hat and surrounding area.
Now Gloria can give out her business card to some of our old clients, so that they can once again enjoy her soups, sandwiches, desserts or pastries.

1993 Mortgage Burning Party
I came across this invitation the other day. It's for a mortgage burning party we held back in 1993.
It reads:
Allan & Gloria Scahill
Request that you attend a 9 hole round of golf at the Paradise Valley Golf Course.
On Friday July 9th 1993.
Golf fees to be paid by yourself.
Followed by the long awaited BBQ to celebrate their MORTGAGE BURNING.
Tee-off will begin at 6 PM Sharp!!
Anyone not attending the golf Tourney will be missing out on a lot of fun plus a prize for the lowest and honest score. RSVP by July 7, 1993 - BYOB.
I created the card back in 1993, using my 386 PC with Print Shop and a dot matrix printer. This was the track feed type of printer, where you have to tear the perforated edges off.
Due to the occasion, I had quite a bit to drink that night. I was also not very "PC". I was dressed as a native American Indian. I had put a post into the ground in our yard, and at about 10:00 PM when the sun went down, I commenced to dancing around it. I then set fire to a copy of our mortgage.
We moved into our house in 1978 after signing a 25 year mortgage agreement, so we had paid it off in 15 years. This was achieved by paying half of the monthly mortgage every two weeks and on the yearly anniversary of the mortgage putting in extra cash.
Photographs from the mortgage burning party.

Netcasts (podcasts) I Listen To
The following are netcasts that I like to listen too while walking my friend and buddy, Maia. Maia is an eleven year old Doberman Pincher or while exercising on the treadmill.
What is a netcast?
Netcasting is the method of distributing multimedia files, such as audio programs or music videos, over the Internet using the RSS or Atom syndication formats, for playback on mobile devices and personal computers.
There are four topics I like to listen too:
I hope you find some, if not all of these netcasts interesting, informative with useful ways to improve your computing, genealogy, photography or general knowledge.

A Day Spent Cleaning The Yard
After last weeks snow melted over the weekend, I had a chance today to clean the yard of leaves and such.
It has been about two weeks since the last yard cleanup, but that was put on hold for a while.
There is still more cleanup to do, but I ran out of bags and all the compost bins are full.
Hopefully by tomorrow, I can finish the remainder of the garden and areas.

The Scahill Tiny Tafel
Tiny Tafels are a way of indicating which families one is interested in. They can be read by human beings, but they can also be read by computers, and matched with other Tiny Tafels to find common interests.
The header gives information about the researcher and how to contact him or her name, address, phone and so on. The body gives information like this:
S400 1800*1992*SCAHILL\Westport,County Mayo,Ireland/Medicine Hat,Ab,Canada
The S400 is a Soundex code, enabling computers to match names that sound alike, but which may be spelt differently.
Then follows the earliest and latest birth dates for members of that family in the researchers records. The * and : symbols have the following meanings:
* the researcher is very interested in this family
: the researcher is moderately interested
. the researcher is slightly interested
A blank after the date means the researcher not interested at all. The interest level symbol that follows the first date indicates how interested one is in finding out more about the ancestors in that line, and after the second date it shows how interested one is in finding out more about the descendants in that line.
The place names indicate the places of birth of the oldest and youngest persons in that line that the researcher has a record of.
I have omitted certain personal information at the beginning of the tiny tafel, but I can still be reached via email.

Killing Sheep With Intent To Steal
The TV show Ancestors In The Attic on History TV, asked for submissions on genealogical questions, with the possiblity of the question being aired on one of there episodes.
My question concerns a possible ancestor, so I sent them the following and requested if they could research it:
Michael Scahill
Place Of Trial: County Mayo. Date Of Trial: 01/01/1850
Crime Description: Killing Sheep With Intent To Steal
Sentence: Transportaion 7 Years
Ship Rodney: 00/11/1852
Document References: Tr 9, P 130
The reference to this trial and sentence can be found at Irish Transportation Records and entering the name Scahill in the search box.
Who knows maybe I have a villain in my past.

Scahills Of Wars And Conflicts
Did you have a Scahill ancestor or family member in WWI, WWII or Vietnam?
The link below takes you to pages on my web site that are dedicated to those Scahills who served there country during times of war or conflict.
If any of these servicemen and women are part of your family, please let me know.
I would like to show what medals these veterans were awarded, but the purchase cost for each medal information from the UK National Archives is £3.50.
I AM NOT LOOKING FOR DONATIONS, JUST INFORMATION.
These are the medals that were awarded during World War 1.

Scahill Families In 1856 Westport
In the ninetenth century there were a number of Scahill Families in the Westport area, i.e. the parishes of *Oughaval, *Kilmena and *Aghagower.
It is probable that all were related to some degree, but unfortunately records for this part of the country are neither old enough, nor explicit enough to allow any degrees of kinship to be established.
The General Valuation of Rateable Property,1856, is the first source giving the name of landholders and tenants through out the entire country. From this source it is apparent that there were fourteen Scahill households around Westport, the most of which were in the Murrisk area.
The town of Westport lies mostly in the parish of Oughaval (pronounced "Oak-wall"), and partly in the parish of Kilmeena.
The parish of Aghagower comes within a mile of the town and so, any enquiry concerning Westport requires the records for each of these three parishes to be searched.
Scahills In Oughaval civil parish, 1856:
Bryan, Durless
Catherine, Deerpark West
James, Bellataleen, land in Murrisknaboll
Michael, Murrisknaboll, land in Bellataleen
Patrick, Murrisknaboll, land in Bellataleen and Carrowkeeran
Peter, Carrowkeeran
William, Fahburren
*Oughaval - Parish number 33 on the South Mayo Civil Parishes map.
Scahills In Kilmena civil parish, 1856:
John, Inishgort, Clew Bay
*Kilmena - Parish number 25 on the South Mayo Civil Parishes map.
Scahills In Aghagower civil parish, 1856:
Austin, Boheh
Edmond, Cordarragh South
John, Corveigh Lower, land in Codarragh South
Lawrence, Corveigh Lower
Francis, Knappagh More
Mary, Knappagh Beg
*Aghagower - Parish number 1 on the South Mayo Civil Parishes map.
